“Inspect what you inspect” is an important phrase and important RULE of Leadership. Why? Because what gets measured get’s done and because of the second part of this RULE which says “…or lose respect!” If you don’t follow up with people to check they are doing what you’ve asked them to do, then it becomes very obvious that you don’t really care that much. People lose respect for their leader if there is no follow up. No “Congratulations” when they take the appropriate action will often evoke a response of “why bother”! If you do follow up ancd praise, or provide more training, it’s clear to the person AND EVERYONE ELSE that you are serious when you ask for changes, improvements etc.
